You have arrived at Sphinx Airport. Your next step after landing at the airport will be to choose one of the transportation options that will take you and your group to your desired location in Giza. In this guide, I have detailed all the transportation options available at Sphinx Airport.
What Are Your Transportation Options from Sphinx Airport?
After landing at Sphinx Airport, it is important to choose the right transportation option to ensure a smooth start to your trip. Whether you are looking for an economical route or prefer a comfort-oriented journey, you will find options to suit every budget and need in this guide.
From car rental to public transport, taxis to private transfer services, discover all the details of each alternative and start your journey to Giza quickly and comfortably.
1. Car Rental from Sphinx Airport
Sphinx International Airport offers a wide range of car rental options. International chains such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, and Enterprise, as well as local companies such as Green Motion and Nu, provide services both inside the terminal and at offices outside the facility. Daily economy class car rental prices typically range from 25-40 USD. SUVs and luxury segment vehicles cost between 50-80 USD per day.
Booking your car in advance will save you a lot of time. When booking your car, you can specify any extras that need to be provided, such as a baby seat.
Upon arrival at the airport, you can quickly pick up your car without having to deal with paperwork. All you need to do is take your driving licence and the credit card used for the reservation to the car rental office.
There are numerous car rental companies at the airport. There are also car rental companies outside the airport and in locations close to the airport.
2. Sphinx Airport Private Transfers
To make your journey from Sphinx International Airport comfortable and stress-free from start to finish, you can choose one of two basic transfer options: private transfers for you and your group, or shared transfers with other passengers. I have provided detailed information on current prices, service details and booking tips for both alternatives.
First, with private transfers, your driver will meet you at the arrival hall of the airport terminal exit with a sign. With shared transfers, you can travel to your accommodation with your fellow passengers in a minibus or shuttle. Whichever option you choose, the vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, seat belts, luggage space and, in most cases, free Wi-Fi.
Private Transfers Just for You and Your Group
Door-to-Door Comfort: The driver will wait for you in the ‘Arrivals’ hall with a card displaying your name after baggage handling and provide baggage assistance.
Fixed Price Guarantee: Regardless of traffic or flight delays, you will not pay any additional fees beyond the fixed price confirmed at the time of booking.
Vehicle Options: Sedan, SUV, luxury class (Mercedes, BMW) and minibus (6-12 people) are available.
Pricing – per person (One Way, SPX to Giza Centre)
Economy Sedan (Toyota Corolla or equivalent): 30-40 USD
SUV (Nissan X-Trail or equivalent): 45-55 USD
Luxury Class (Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series): 65-85 USD
Minibus (8-12 seats): 80-100 USD
Note: Prices may vary depending on the exchange rate, season, and booking channel. These prices are current for 2025.
Driver fee, all taxes, luggage transport, flight tracking, waiting time (up to 60 minutes) are included in the price.
Tips (average 5-10 USD recommended), extra stop requests and parking fees are not included in the price.
Booking Recommendations
Early Planning: Book your reservation at least 1 week in advance with the most popular providers (GetYourGuide, Viator, Rimo Tours).
Flexible Cancellation: It is very important to choose options that offer ‘free cancellation’ because sometimes your travel plans may be disrupted or completely cancelled for reasons beyond your control. This option can be a lifesaver.
Shared Transfers with Other Passengers
More Economical: Vehicles are minibuses or shuttles that can accommodate 8-20 people. The per-person cost is typically 30-50% lower than private transfers.
Environmentally Friendly: High vehicle occupancy helps reduce your carbon footprint.
Flexibility: Vehicle size is adjusted according to the number of passengers in your flight group. This option is ideal for large families and group trips.
Pricing – per person (One Way, SPX to Giza Centre)
Standard Shuttle (Minibus, 8-12 people): 10-15 USD
Economy Shared Van (15-20 people): 7-12 USD
Express Shuttle (few stops, direct to Giza hotels): 12-18 USD
Airport pickup, luggage assistance, and all taxes are included in the price.
Tips, flight delay waiting fees (usually an additional 5-10 USD/hour) are not included in the price.
Reservation Tips (please read carefully)
Minimum Participation: Transfers usually do not take place unless there are at least 2-3 passengers in shared groups. You can guarantee your spot by booking early.
Group Booking: By sharing the contact information of passengers arriving on the same flight, you can reduce your waiting time.
At Sphinx International Airport, there is definitely a transfer option that suits both your budget and your comfort expectations. With private transfers, you can take advantage of fixed prices and vehicle options. If you are looking for a more economical option, shared shuttles will be easy on both your wallet and the environment.
3. Taxis at Sphinx Airport
In this article, you can find all the details you need to know about where to find taxis at Sphinx International Airport, what types of taxis are available, current price ranges, and how to use taxis in Egypt.
Sphinx Airport Taxi Stops
Main Exit Gate (Arrivals): Official taxis wait for passengers in the striped waiting areas at the terminal exit.
VIP/Private Taxi Stand: Immediately to the right of the exit, there are vehicles from private transfer companies that offer fixed-rate services.
App-Based Taxi (Uber & Careem) Points
Uber/Careem Pickup Area: You can find your vehicles under the ‘Rideshare’ signs 100 metres away from the terminal exit. These parking areas are marked on the map I drew on the Airport Map page, where you can find more details.
App Advantage: You can see and lock in the estimated fare in advance via the app. Additionally, you won’t have to pay in cash.
NOTE: We have recently received information that rides are frequently canceled when requesting Uber at the airport. I recommend planning your time accordingly without ignoring this issue.
Sphinx Airport Taxi Fares
Yellow (Standard) Taxi
Initial Fare: 0.20 USD (7 EGP)
Per Kilometre: 0.06 USD/km (2 EGP/km)
Total Estimated Fare (SPX to Giza Centre): 3-5 USD (100-150 EGP)
Waiting and Traffic Fees: You will pay additional fees as the meter runs. You may have to pay extra waiting fees during peak hours.
NOTE: Agree on a fixed price before getting into the taxi. Bargaining is a cultural norm in this country, so you should not immediately accept the price quoted to you. If you do not agree on a fixed price, there is a high likelihood of issues upon arrival. This is a very important matter.
Airbnb and Hotel Partnered VIP/Private Taxi
Fixed One-Way Fare (SPX to Giza Centre): 12-16 USD
Vehicle Type: Sedan or luxury minivan. Luggage assistance and signboard welcome are included in the fare.
Waiting Time: First 60 minutes free. After that, an additional fee of 1-2 USD/10 minutes applies.
Tip: You can book a VIP taxi with a fixed price guarantee through your hotel or travel agency. I recommend making this reservation at least 10 days before your travel date.
Taxi Fares from Sphinx to Popular Destinations
Below, you can find the approximate one-way fares for the five most popular destinations from Sphinx International Airport (SPX) by yellow taxi. Prices are estimates and may increase during peak hours (08:00-10:00, 17:00-19:00) due to traffic delays.
SPX to Giza (Mohandessin): 400 EGP (12 USD)
SPX to Giza Pyramids Area: 400 EGP (12 USD)
SPX to Cairo City Centre (Tahrir): 500 EGP (15 USD)
SPX to Heliopolis / Nasr City: 500 EGP (15 USD)
SPX to Cairo International Bus Station: 600 EGP (18 USD)
Official taxi drivers at Sphinx Airport usually prefer a fixed bargaining fare. Therefore, instead of asking for the meter to be turned on, you can ask the taxi driver at the taxi rank for the price to your destination or agree on a fixed price with the driver.
If you want a definite fixed price, you can make a pre-booking through online platforms such as Welcome Pickups or KiwiTaxi for a fixed transfer fee of 12-16 USD.
Things to Keep in Mind When Using Taxis in Egypt (very important)
1- Use the Meter or Agree on a Fixed Price
2- Always request that the meter be turned on in yellow taxis. If the driver refuses to turn on the meter, negotiate and agree on a price.
3- Phone & Internet: To avoid issues without internet, you can purchase a local SIM card or roaming package. It is very important to note the vehicle’s license plate number.
4- Tipping Culture: You can leave an average tip of 10-15%.
5- Peak Hours: Traffic increases between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. You will be charged extra for every minute you spend waiting in traffic during these times.
6- Navigation: Use Google Maps to follow the route. Taxis generally know the shortcuts, but it never hurts to be cautious.
7- Online Booking: You can make your reservation immediately via Careem and Uber. For private taxis, you can make advance reservations with fixed rates via platforms such as Rimo Tours, KiwiTaxi, and GetYourGuide.
4. Buses at Sphinx Airport
There are no direct bus services from Sphinx International Airport (SPX) to the city centre or other areas of Giza. However, regular shuttle buses and shuttle services are available through both shared and private operators.
State-run buses operated by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport do not stop at SPX. There are no public buses with blue or red routes from Sphinx Airport to the city centre. Passengers typically take a taxi ($2-$4) to nearby stations such as Imbaba or Bulaq and then transfer to Egypt National Railways bus and minibus routes.
Shared shuttles are an economical option for solo travellers and backpackers and are available at the airport. Shared shuttles use minibuses/mini-coaches.
Kiwitaxi / Kiwibuses
Route: SPX to/from Giza city centre (Mohandessin, Dokki, etc.)
Duration: 50-70 minutes (depending on traffic)
Number of trips: 3-4 trips daily (from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
Price: $5 USD per person one way
Reservation: You can make a reservation via the website or mobile app. If there are seats available, walk-ins are also accepted.
Sphinx Airport Shuttle (Limousine)
Route: SPX to major hotels in Cairo and Giza (Mena House, Marriott, Hilton Pyramids)
Duration: 45-60 minutes
Number of trips: Departures every hour (07:00-19:00)
Shared (min. 4 people): $6-8 USD/person
Private Shuttle (up to 4 people): $30-35 USD total
Reservations: You can make reservations at limuzen(.)com
Airport-Ramses Bus Station Connection
First, take a taxi to Ramses Train and Bus Terminal and then take a public bus operated by Mwasalat Misr.
SPX to Ramses Terminal: 30-40 minutes by taxi, $3-5 USD
Ramses to Cairo International Bus Terminal (CAI): Mwasalat Misr buses run hourly, $1 USD ticket price
Ramses to Giza Centre: City minibuses 0.5-1 USD
The lack of an official public transport route at Sphinx Airport can be easily compensated for with shared shuttles and private minibus options. Reliable operators such as Kiwitaxi, Sphinx Airport Shuttle, and limousines offer daily regular services. A combined journey via the Ramses Terminal is also an economical alternative. By planning and booking in advance, you can reach Giza safely and affordably.
