A quick look at Sphinx Airport Taxi prices
Taxi fares at Sphinx Airport typically range from 150-250 EGP (2.96 -4.93 USD), depending on the type of vehicle you choose and your destination.
If you want to take a yellow taxi from the airport to the centre of Giza (Mohandessin), you will need to pay an average of 400 EGP (7.89 USD), and 500 EGP (9.88 USD) to Cairo city centre.
Alternatively, if you wish to call an Uber or Careem, you can wait for your vehicle in the designated pickup area just outside the arrivals hall. Shared services are also available at the airport.
Sphinx Airport Taxi Fares Cairo and Giza
I have prepared a table with current fares for Cairo, the Pyramids, and other popular destinations in Egypt. I have also researched airport surcharges, daytime/night-time/public holiday fares, extra baggage, large baggage, and minimum fares. The prices below are for guidance only and are correct at the time of writing.
Distances are rounded based on GPS and road routes.
‘Airport Surcharge’ is typically between 10-15 EGP.
Night (23:00-06:00) may incur an additional 25-50% surcharge.
Extra standard luggage (1-2 pieces) may incur an additional fee of 5-10 EGP, and large luggage (bicycles, etc.) may incur an additional fee of 20-50 EGP.
Minimum fare (initial charge): Official yellow taxis have an initial charge of 7 EGP. An additional 3 EGP is added per kilometre. However, airport taxis typically operate on a fixed negotiated fare.

How do Sphinx Airport taxi fares work? Do Egyptian taxis have meters?
Official yellow taxis in Egypt have meters. However, taxi drivers at the airport may request a fixed fare from passengers. You can negotiate with the driver to lower the price. Some drivers may request an additional fee at the end of the journey; pay the agreed price.
Be sure to check the price list at the airport exit. Look for prices between EGP 200-300 for your destination. Fares may increase (up to 50%) during peak periods.
Where is the taxi rank at Sphinx Airport Arrivals?
Taxis at Sphinx Airport wait for passengers just outside the arrivals terminal, in the area marked with a ‘Taxi’ sign. You may have to wait 10-15 minutes to get a taxi.
How many people can travel in a Giza taxi? What about wheelchairs? And child seats?
Standard Taxis: Capacity for 4 adults + luggage.
Minivans/Private Vehicles: Accommodate up to 6-8 passengers (with special reservation)
Wheelchairs: Not available in yellow taxis. Wheelchair access is available in vehicles provided by companies such as London Cab Egypt.
Child car seats are not available in taxis. You must make a reservation in advance.
Accessible Transfer: If you require a special taxi service, you can make a reservation with a private transfer company.
Are the taxi queues long?
During peak flight times, queues can be up to 15-20 minutes long. However, you can usually find a taxi at the airport within 10 minutes.
Child/Baby Safety in Egypt Taxis
Taxis in Egypt are not required by road traffic regulations to carry or use child seats. There is no child seat requirement throughout the country. Families usually travel with toddlers sitting on their laps or partially secured with a seat belt. Official taxis at the exit of Sphinx Airport do not have child seats as standard equipment. Drivers also generally do not consider it mandatory to use seat belts.
Companies such as Rimo Tours, KiwiTaxi, and GetYourGuide provide child seats for infants (0-2 years) and children (3-11 years) free of charge or for a small fee upon request. Car rental companies (Avis, Europcar, Sixt) offer the option to rent ISOFIX or universal-compatible child seats for an additional fee.
Tips for taking taxis in Egypt safely and easily
Use authorised taxi ranks: Choose official taxis at the terminal exit.
Negotiate the fare: Agree on the price with the driver before getting in.
Use apps: You can book a ride via Uber or Careem. Fares are fixed, and you can pay digitally.
Payment Method: Cash (EGP) is preferred in taxis. Credit cards are only accepted by private companies and Uber/Careem.
Note the Taxi Plate Number: Record the plate number for any complaints.
